๐Ÿšจ Bryson DeChambeau Is A One-Man Drama Franchise And He Is Operating At Full Capacity

Let’s start with the penalty. Bryson took a TWO-STROKE penalty at Royal Birkdale for allegedly improving his lie in the fescue, which โ€” depending on who you ask โ€” cost him a legitimate shot at the Claret Jug. He disputed it. He’s still disputing it. And when he finally sat down with media this week, he described the whole situation as “adversity.” (source)

Adversity. Not “a ruling I disagree with.” Not “a tough break at the worst possible time.” Adversity. The word you use when your roof caves in or you lose your job, not when a rules official catches you on camera doing something you probably shouldn’t have been doing. The reframing is so smooth it almost deserves respect โ€” almost.

But then it gets better!! Because in the same week, at LIV Golf UK, Bryson nearly took out Ian Poulter with a tee shot. Poulter himself said “it would have hurt… a lot.” (source) So to recap his week: disputed penalty at a major, press conference where he rebrands rules violations as personal growth, then nearly missiles a 50-year-old man on a tee box. Just continuous, relentless, beautiful content.

The thing is, Bryson is now so deep inside his own mythology that “adversity” isn’t a slip โ€” it’s load-bearing. He genuinely processes the world as Bryson vs. The Universe, and the rules of golf are just another obstacle the Universe threw at him. At this point his management team isn’t doing PR. They’re doing lore-building.

๐Ÿท Ryan Fox Drank All Night After Winning The Open, Then Found Himself At The Airport With The Guy He’d Just Beaten

Ryan Fox wins the Claret Jug at Royal Birkdale โ€” incredible, historic, full send โ€” and spends the night doing exactly what you’d do if you won the Open Championship. Not sleeping. Celebrating. Wine in the trophy, presumably. Zero regrets. (source)

Then he drags himself to the airport the next morning, still buzzing, and walks directly into Cameron Young. The man he just beat. Just the two of them, presumably queueing at departures, one with a Claret Jug and one very pointedly without one.

Cameron Young has now finished runner-up at THREE majors (yes, really). He is going to win one of these eventually, and when he does someone will need to check on Ryan Fox. But for now โ€” awkward airport encounter, Fox gets the trophy, everyone goes home. Go Foxy.

โณ 1,599 Days Since Jordan Spieth’s Last Win. Let’s Actually Sit With That.

The number does the work on its own. 1,599 DAYS. Not a slump โ€” a mini geological era. Spieth missed the cut at The Open by NINE strokes, extending a major drought to nine full seasons. The internet treats this like a fun countdown clock. The reality is more complicated. (source)

Here’s the real take: Spieth’s decline isn’t a mystery if you actually watch him play. The driver is a constant anxiety spiral that puts him in recovery mode before he’s reached the first fairway. His short game โ€” once historically elite โ€” has been quietly bailing that driver out for years. When both go cold on the same day, he shoots 77 and misses cuts. There’s no single thing that broke. The whole system got tired at once, and there’s no obvious fix because there’s no obvious cause.

What makes it genuinely hard to watch is that his brain is still there. Course management, reading greens, constructing a round around a bad ball-striking day โ€” all still elite. He’s not a diminished golfer mentally. He’s a frustrated one. He’s 32. There’s time. But “there’s time” is doing a lot of heavy lifting right now, and the clock doesn’t stop ticking just because we’re not watching it.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Scottie Scheffler Made A “Surprise” 3M Open Debut And Was Immediately The Best Player There

Scottie Scheffler โ€” the number one player in the world by a distance โ€” showed up to the 3M Open this week for the first time in his career, apparently just because he felt like it. His putter had been cold at The Open. Not at TPC Twin Cities. Hot putter, hot round, great vibes all round. (source)

Watching Scheffler at this point is like watching someone play on a difficulty setting the rest of the field doesn’t have access to. He showed up to a tournament he has never once played before and was immediately the story. The man gets the little things right so relentlessly that it stops feeling remarkable and starts just being his resting state. Genuinely ridiculous.

๐ŸŽฌ No Laying Up’s “Keep Showing Up” Drops August 12th

NLU’s new film follows Jake and Roz navigating cancer treatment, golf, and everything that lands in between โ€” and they’re upfront that it doesn’t have a clean ending. This one matters. Clear August 12th. (source)

That’s the week. Bryson faced adversity, Ryan Fox faced Cameron Young at the departures gate, and Jordan Spieth faces the rest of us watching that counter tick. See you next Thursday โ€” unless Bryson has another quiet week, in which case see you sooner.
