Srixon announced the second generation of its ZXi iron line on September 8, and this time there are four forged models instead of three. The headline is a new fully forged, hollow-body ZXi5+ players distance iron slotting in above the ZXi5, plus new forging (i-FORGED) and AI-designed face structures across the line. Pre-sale opened September 8 with free personalization through the October 16 retail launch. Everything below comes from the release and Srixon’s own spec sheets. We haven’t hit them yet, so no test numbers here, just the facts you need to decide whether to book a fitting.
The Lineup
- ZXi7 Players Iron: S15C forged with tungsten, PureFrame iQ ridge behind the sweet spot. Low handicap, workability first.
- ZXi5 Players Performance Iron: forged feel plus MainFrame iQ face for more ball speed and forgiveness. Low to mid handicap.
- ZXi5+ Players Distance Iron (new): fully forged hollow body, stronger lofts, longer blades, wider soles. Mid handicap. Ryan Fox won The Open with them in the bag.
- ZXi4 is out of the lineup. Srixon doesn’t say so in the release, but the hollow-body ZXi4 no longer appears in its iron comparison chart, and the ZXi5+ lands within a degree of its lofts (28.5° vs 29.5° 7-iron, both 43° PW). Read the ZXi5+ as the ZXi4’s forged replacement. The ZXi4 remains on sale at $1,499.99 while stock lasts.
- ZXiU Utility Iron: long-iron replacement in 18°, 20° and 23°, higher launch, sold individually.
What’s New
- i-FORGED: Srixon’s Condensed Forging plus controlled heat-softening. Hardens the steel around each groove while keeping the rest of the head soft. Claimed benefit is groove durability without losing feel.
- MainFrame iQ (ZXi5, ZXi5+, ZXiU): AI-simulated face structure that trims face mass by up to 8% and moves that weight to the perimeter for higher MOI and more consistent speed across the face.
- PureFrame iQ (ZXi7): the forged ridge behind the sweet spot is larger and repositioned to stiffen the impact zone with less mass than the prior generation.
- Progressive weighting: more perimeter weight in the long irons, more centered mass in the short irons.
- Tour V.T. Sole carries over, with tour-driven shaping changes: slightly thinner toplines, cleaner transitions, and blade length and offset progressions tuned for combo sets.
- Progressive grooves: wider grooves 3i–7i, deeper and closer-set grooves 8i–AW, laser milling between every groove.
- Endo forging: every head is forged by Endo Manufacturing in Japan.
- Personalization: custom paintfill, ferrules and alignment lines, normally $15 per option, free from September 8 through October 16.

Loft Comparison
Where the “distance” in the ZXi5+ comes from: it’s 2.5° stronger than the ZXi7 in the 7-iron and 3° stronger in the pitching wedge. Plan your gapping accordingly.
For reference, the outgoing ZXi4 ran 28.5° in the 7-iron and 43° in the PW, so anyone moving from a ZXi4 to a ZXi5+ should see near-identical gapping.

Bottom Line
Srixon’s forged irons have been among the best options in the players category for years, and a $100 bump to $1,499.99 for a 7-piece Endo-forged set still comes in under Mizuno Pro and Titleist T-Series money. The ZXi5+ is the one to watch: a hollow forged distance iron with a 43° pitching wedge is a different animal from the ZXi5, so if you’re gapping a combo set, get fit rather than buying off the chart.
